Nora Grace “Gracie” Stankavich, 74 of DuBois died peacefully, Friday, May 31, 2013 at her home. Born Feb. 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Nora C. (Johnston) Scholl.
On June 30, 1960, she married Joseph F. Stankavich. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1984.
She spent her life in the service of others before herself. She had been employed as a librarian, a driver and aide for the developmentally disabled, a private care worker and as a well-known bus driver for DuFAST Transit for many years until her retirement.
For 13 years, she provided care for her older brother, Joe until his recent passing. She loved to garden and fish and was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.
She’s survived by three daughters, Cheryl Laird and her husband, Kelly, Lisa Pompeii and her husband, Steve and Pamela Stankavich and two sons, Joseph and Matthew Stankavich, all of DuBois. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Keister and three brothers, Merle, James and Charles “Joe” Scholl.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Msgr. Richard Siefer officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
