Friday, May 31
Tales From the Hive
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Bees are amazing creatures, quite possibly working harder than most others. Watch as the secret world of a bee colony is unveiled and we can see how life as a bee unfolds. Discover new-found facts about the strange and complex life of bees.
Saturday, June 1
Adaptation Artistry
10 a.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Come learn how some of the park’s inhabitants are adapted for surviving. Whether they trick predators or have special features for hiding in plain sight, the local wildlife are very specialized. Children will be able to create a creature with its own adaptations for survival.
Orienteering Basics
1 p.m. – Beach House
You may think that with your GPS you can get anywhere. However, without the technology, could you find your way using a compass and a map? Learn the basics of how to do just that, so that if you ever need to, you can!
Beaver Dam Trail
2 p.m. – Beach House
We will travel through varying habitats where we may see diverse wildlife and their sign. Part of the trail follows a historic railroad grade and you can learn about the park’s history along the way. This two-mile loop is has easy terrain; please wear appropriate shoes.
A Murder of Crows
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
They don’t always have the best of reputations, but crows are among the most intelligent animals in the world. They’ve shown ability to use tools and recognize faces. Crow scientists sing their praises and you will see captivating footage of crows.
Sunday, June 2
Black Bears
2 p.m. – Beach House
Black bears are one of the most interesting creatures roaming around in Penn’s Woods. Their adaptations and survival behavior are incredibly interesting. Come learn more about these creatures and understand that there is a great deal that you may not have known about them before.
Lou and Helen Adams CCC Museum
Come and celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Civilian Conservation Corps by learning all about this Great Depression-era program. The museum will be open Sunday from 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
