HARRISBURG –State Sen. John N. Wozniak (D-Johnstown) provided the following statement regarding the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the latest legislative redistricting plan:
“This whole redistricting process has been very disappointing. The plan upheld never represented the best interests of Pennsylvania citizens,” Wozniak said. “It is a convoluted map that includes far too many municipality, county and community splits that in the long run will only leave some communities and their citizens underrepresented.
“With a district that, under this plan, stretches 150 miles end to end, it will be very challenging to serve all constituents in all communities equally considering the distance.
“While I respect the court’s decision on this matter, I do believe that this map is incredibly short-sighted and this process is a missed opportunity to craft a legislative districting map that is truly representative of Pennsylvania’s needs.
“As an eager advocate for rural Pennsylvania, I look forward to continuing to work with the constituents of Clearfield and Cambria counties and I look forward to now working with the constituents of Bedford County moving forward.”
