Have you recently lost a cherished pet or are you dealing with dealing with the decision of euthanizing a pet and you would like to talk with someone who understands your grief?
Sadly, everyone who cares for a pet will one day face the illness, old age or passing of their beloved animal friend. It is as natural and necessary to grieve for the loss of a pet, as it is for any loved one who dies and it is important to have compassion and support in one’s time of grief.
There are many people facing these types of situations who would benefit from sharing their stories and sorrows with other individuals who care. The Animal Welfare Council is setting up a Pet Grief Support Group that will offer this type of sharing and caring atmosphere and will allow grieving pet owners the opportunity to talk with others who understand and share their concern.
The first meeting of the Pet Grief Support Group will be held at 6 p.m. April 30 at the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic at 1380 Shawville Hwy. in Woodland (adjacent to the Woodland Post Office). Regular meeting dates and times will be discussed at the first meeting and there will be a variety of topics offered such as helping children to deal with the loss of a pet, knowing when euthanasia is the best option, deciding when it is time to get a new pet and others.
The meetings are free and everyone is welcome. The AWC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 2006 by a group of individuals who share concern and passion for animals in the community and strive to fulfill the needs of local animals and their owners.
