CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Fair Queen Committee has begun preparation for the 2008 Fair Queen contest that will be held Sunday, July 27, 2008. The purpose of the Fair Queen Program is to encourage the promotion of County Fairs and the agricultural programs they support to create better relations between youth and adults in both rural and urban settings.
Young women throughout Clearfield County who are at least 16 years of age and not over 20 years of age by June 1, 2008 are encouraged to pick up a current application and mail or fax it to the Clearfield County Fair & Park Board at the address listed on the application. Contestants must be a resident of Clearfield County; have parental consent if under 18 years of age; be single and have had no children and be available to attend the Clearfield County Fair all week. While the duties of the Fair Queen are varied throughout fair week, her main purpose is to promote agriculture and the fair. This is accomplished through many ways, including presentation of ribbons, greeting visitors to the fair, meeting various artists from the entertainment industry, and in general, being the “Good Will Ambassador”.
Monetary awards in the amount of $500; $200 and $100 are given to the Queen and runners-up respectively. If there are 10 or more finalists, third and fourth place runners-up are named, receiving $50 and $25 respectively.
Applications for the 2008 contest can be obtained at the following places located throughout Clearfield County or by clipping the form in today’s newspaper: Entries must be received in the Fair Board office no later than Monday, June 2 at 4:00 p.m. and should be typed or printed clearly in dark blue or black ink. The first meeting for all applicants/contestants will be held in the Expo II Building outside the Fair Queen Office at 6:30 p.m. the evening of June 2. All contestants must attend the meeting to receive further information on the remainder of the contest.
