The state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and Sinnemahoning State Park is partnering with Country Squirrel Outfitters, Cameron County Chamber of Commerce and Allegheny River Competitive Paddlers to host a series of paddling clinics.
These clinics will allow area outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to learn the basics of paddling a canoe or kayak (single and tandem), how to choose proper clothing for cold water conditions; how to trim and properly set up a boat; and how to choose the perfect PFD.
With the Cameron County Canoe and Kayak Classic and the Ridgway Triathlon just around the corner, this will be an opportunity to meet other people who are interested in friendly competition and camaraderie. This event will also provide a networking opportunity to partner with a fellow competitor or assemble a team for one of these local races.
This teaching cadre has many years of experience in paddle sports and is eager to share their love and passion for this type of venue. Country Squirrel and Allegheny River Competitive Paddlers will also have items for sale in preparation of these upcoming events.
There will be two clinics offered. The first will be from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce located on Main Street in downtown Emporium. The second will be from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. April 13 at the Country Squirrel Outfitters in Ridgeway along the Clarion River.
If weather and water conditions allow, a water segment will be part of the clinic. If not, a separate session will follow to be announced at a later date.
A Zaveral carbon fiber, bent shaft paddle will be raffled off on April 13 at Country Squirrel Outfitters.
This is an American made, lightweight paddle that will be cut to length for the winner. Tickets are on sale at the Emporium Chamber of Commerce starting on Wednesday. For more information on this expensive piece of equipment used by the pros, go to: www.zre.com.
