MECHANICSBURG — Freshman breaststroke specialist Alex Fisher (Clearfield) was a member of two medal-winning relay foursomes and also placed in two individual events for Gannon at the 2013 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in Cumberland Valley High School last weekend.
The Golden Knight 400-yard medley relay team claimed silver medals Friday with an NCAA Division II B-cut time of 3:25.84 that shattered the school record of 3:29.39 set during the 2010-11 season.
Fisher swam a 58.08-second leg in teaming with sophomore Adam Chrzanowski (backstroke), senior Ethan Chase (butterfly) and sophomore Nathan Bean (freestyle).
In the 200 medley relay on Thursday, Fisher turned in a 25.84-second effort as the Golden Knight quartet that included sophomore Michael Deesey (back), Chase and sophomore Nick Wolhaupter (free) posted a 1:33.93 to finish third and earn bronze medals.
Fisher registered personal bests in picking additional points for Gannon in two consolation finals events.
He placed 11th in the 200 breast with a 2:11.22 Sunday and 14th in the 100 breast with a 59.51 Saturday.
Fisher just missed making the consolation finals in the 200 individual medley, finishing 17th with a 1:59.28 time in the preliminaries.
Gannon accumulated 433 points to place fourth in the seven-team field behind West Chester (811), Bloomsburg (482) and Clarion (433).
During the dual meet season, Fisher won seven individual races and was on two winning relay teams for the Golden Knights, who were 6-7.
He swept the 50 breast (28.21) and 100 breast (1:02.27) in a 146-134 win over Penn State Behrend and the 100 breast (1:02.66) and 200 breast (2:21.1) in a 192-88 victory over Grove City and a 176-102 to host Kenyon (Ohio) in a quad meet. He also won the 100 breast (103.54) in a 120.5-110.5 win over Fredonia (N.Y.) State.

MEN’S GYMASTICS
PHILADELPHIA — After missing the first month of the 2013 season because of an injury, two-time NCAA All-American still rings specialist Scott Rosenthal (Clearfield) returned to the lineup Saturday and placed second behind teammate Parker Raque as No. 1-ranked Penn State remained undefeated by sweeping No. 11 William & Mary and No. 12 and host Temple in Pearson-McGonigle Hall.
Rosenthal, who broke his own school record last year with two 16.300 performances that also tied the modern NCAA standard, earned a 15.500 score.
Raque won with a 15.800 effort.
The Nittany Lions (4-0) swept the six individual titles with Felix Aronovich the all-around winner in piling up 446.550 points for the one-sided victories.
Temple was second with a 421.300 total and William & Mary wound up third with 417.750.
Rosenthal won the 2012 Big Ten Conference still rings title with a 15.900 and was the silver medalist at the NCAA Championships with a 15.250, his second lowest score of a season in which he posted the highest score in 10 events and was second in three others.
He earned his first All-American honor by placing eighth in the 2011 NCAA championshipsÂ

BASEBALL
ERIE — As the result of an outstanding sophomore season as Penn State Behrend’s closer, hard-throwing right-hander Chad Zurat (Clearfield) has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Magazine’s 2013 NCAA Division III Players to Watch List.Â
The 6-2, 210-pounder tied the school record with seven saves and split  four decisions in 20 appearances last spring.
He led the Lions with a 1.91 earned run average, struck out 48 and walked only 18Â in 37.2 innings.
Zurat was selected to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference second team and 2012 D3Baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region third-team.
Three other Lions, including junior pitcher/outfielder Dante DeSantis (DuBois/DuBois Central Catholic High School), also received the pre-season recognition.
DeSantis logged six wins and fanned 76 in 64.1 innings on the mound.
Senior third baseman Matt Bittner, a returning American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings D-III Second Team All-American, and starting pitcher Ryan Jacobs were the other Lions cited. Both were tabbed for the 2012 All-AMCC First Team.
