DUBOIS – DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) came up with a big third period Saturday evening to pull out a 37-34 win over the visiting Lady Tide of Curwensville.
It was the second time this year that the Lady Cardinals defeated the Lady Tide. Earlier this season DCC won at Curwensville, in another close battle, 55-49.
The Lady Tide got started on a positive note this time around, leading after one period, 10-4, and at the break 18-13.
However, the Lady Cardinals came up with just one big quarter, the third, to earn the win, outscoring Curwensville 15-4 to take a six point advantage into the final period, 28-22.
Curwensville fought back in the final eight minutes, but winning the fourth quarter, 12-9 just wasn’t enough to gain a win.
Junior Ciara Strickland led the Lady Tide with 11 tallies, while teammate Katrina Seaburn, a senior, added 10.
Seaburn, who missed the game on Friday night against Johnsonburg with an ankle injury, also pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double on the night.
DCC’s Aundrea Snyder was the high scorer of the night with 13, seven in the productive third period for the Lady Cardinals. Kylee Schaffer chipped in with 10.
Lady Tide Head Coach Rusty McCracken said afterwards, “I thought the girls put together a pretty good game today with the quick turn-around after getting beat last night in a game that wasn’t close.”
Then the Tide mentor added, “We certainly played better today. We played hard and executed much better and actually had a chance at the end when we got a steal but just couldn’t capitalize on it.”
In the first game, DuBois Central Catholic won the junior varsity contest by defeating Curwensville 38-29. Shauna Guy scored 13 for the Lady Tide.
The Lady Tide, now at 6-9 on the year, play at home on Monday night, hosting Glendale with the JV game tipping-off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow. The Lady Vikings edged Curwensville the first time the two played, 50-47, on Glendale’s home floor.
Be sure to listen to Lady Tide basketball against Glendale Monday night on WOKW-FM, 102.9, with the pre-game show starting at 7:15 pm.
