ALTOONA – Penn State Altoona’s Division of Arts and Humanities will host the Downtown Film Series for the spring semester. Movies will be shown at the Devorris Downtown Center at 6 p.m. The films are free and open to the general public.
Jan. 20 – 12 Angry Men (1957)
96 minutes. Rated PG. Genres: Thriller/Drama
A dissenting juror in a murder trial slowly manages to convince the others that the case is not as obviously clear as it seemed in court. It includes an all-star cast headed by Henry Fonda.
Feb. 3 – Hugo (2011)
126 minutes. Rated PG for action. Genres: Adventure/Family.
Set in 1930s Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mysterious adventure involving his late father and a mechanical robot. It is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
Feb. 17 – My Week with Marilyn (2011)
99 minutes. Rated R for language. Genres: Drama/Romance.
During a film shoot, movie assistant Colin Clark aids actress Marilyn Monroe, who is struggling with the pressures of Hollywood life. At the same time, he begins to fall for her.
March 3 – Bully (2011)
98 minutes. Rated PG-13 for language and bully violence.
It’s a documentary on peer-to-peer bullying in schools across the nation.
March 24 – Harvey (1950)
104 minutes. Rated G. Genres: Comedy/Family/Fantasy.
Elwood P. Dowd (played by James Stewart) is a mild-mannered, pleasant man, who just happens (he says) to have an invisible friend that’s a 6-foot rabbit named Harvey.
April 7 – The 11th Hour (2007)
95 minutes. Rated PG for thematic elements. Genre: Documentary.
Producer Leonardo DiCaprio presents a look at the state of the global environment including visionary and practical solutions for restoring the planet’s ecosystems.
April 14 – Argo (2012)
120 minutes. Rated R for language and some violence. Genre: Thriller.
Ben Affleck stars and directs a suspenseful dramatization of the 1980 secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran.
April 28 – Saving Private Ryan (1998)
169 minutes. Rated R for intense violence and language. Genre: History.
Following D-Day in World War II, a squad of U.S. soldiers goes behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action. This is being shown in conjunction with the World War II History Weekend at Baker Mansion April 26-28.
