WIILIAMSPORT — Clearfield senior wrestler Christian Stone opened the 2012-2013 season in grand fashion at the Annual Top Hat Tournament in Williamsport over the past weekend.
Stone pinned all four of his opponents, including a fall in the championship finals at the 2:35 mark over Central Columbia’s Jesse Shannon, to earn the Outstanding Wrestler Award and the Most Falls in the Least Amount of Time Award.
The title was Stone’s third at the annual season-opening tourney after placing fourth as a freshman.
Joining Stone in the Parade of Champions for Clearfield were fellow seniors Dylan Graham at 132 and Nolan Barger at 152.
Graham was major decisioned 10-2 by Cole Walter of Mifflinburg and Nolan Barger lost by decision to Hughesville’s Kyle Barnes 5-2.
Graham’s silver medal was his third at the Top Hat, following a sixth place finish as a sophomore and a fourth place finish last year.
Like Stone, Barger’s medal was the fourth of his career following a third as a freshman, a fourth as a sophomore, and another runner-up finish as a junior.
Joining the senior “Big 3” on the medal stand for Clearfield were underclassmen Logan Gilbert and Noah Cline.
Freshman Gilbert at 106 made his varsity debut a success as he went 4-2 in the tourney to place fifth.
Sophomore Cline at 120 went 3-2 to place seventh, after going 1-2 last year at 106 in his first varsity action.
The team title was won by Central Columbia, while Clearfield placed 11th out of 19 teams, matching their team placing from last year.
Clearfield will start their dual meet season on Tuesday December 11 when they host the DuBois Beavers (0-1) at the Art Weiss Gymnasium.
