CLEARFIELD – Penn State Extension of Clearfield County has announced that it will be offering a new 4-H club this coming year in the area of robotics.  The team is open to high school-aged youth that are up for the challenge of building a robot.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math while building self-confidence, knowledge and life skills.

On Jan. 5, 2013, the FIRST will unveil what the robot will be designed to do and from that point on the team has six weeks to build their custom robot. The team will then compete March 14-16, 2013 at the Pittsburgh Regional FRC Competition held at the Petersen Event Center at the University of Pittsburgh.
The team will be holding their first business meeting, along with a follow-up informational session at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Penn State Extension Office located at 511 Spruce St. in Clearfield.
The team is seeking individuals into the building and construction of the robot, as well as the marketing component, which include Web site design, informational brochures and presentations.
