COOPER TOWNSHIP – The Clearfield-based state police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in Cooper Township.
An unknown motorist was traveling on Cassanova Road and crossed into the oncoming lane of travel. The vehicle subsequently struck another operated by Gary Bartleft, 55, of Dover, NH head-on at a low rate of speed.
The motorist then fled the scene in the direction of Centre County and side-swiped a vehicle operated by Edward M. Smolko, 32, of Winburne.
State police described the motorist as a Caucasian woman in her 50’s with blonde hair. She was operating a small, dark-colored car that would have a broken front driver’s side headlight. Her car may also have a damaged driver’s side mirror.
Neither Bartleft nor Smolko was injured in the accident. Both were wearing their seatbelts.
