UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State freshman Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.) has been named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the week along with Iowa’s Hannah Clark, the conference office announced on Monday. Weber scored two goals in two minutes to put the Nittany Lions ahead for good in Sunday’s 5-2 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. Weber earns her third Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, which leads the conference.
Weber’s first goal in the 72nd minute came on a thru ball from senior Christine Nairn (Arnold, Md.) that ended up near the end line. Weber took a touch in and found the far post netting to put Penn State up 3-2. Her second goal was somewhat similar as Nairn played another thru ball ahead and tapped it in for her eighth goal of the season.
No. 4 Penn State returns to action on Friday as it travels to Nebraska for an 8 p.m. matchup with the Huskers.
