DUBOIS – DuBois City is considering posting 25 miles per hour speed limit signs along roadways as part of a proposed ordinance. The affected roadways would be Jeffers Street and Hoover and West Long avenues. If approved, it’d affect West Long Avenue between Main and Brady streets.
City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio explained that these roadway stretches were never assigned speed limits. The state had suggested official limits of 25 miles per hour across the board when the roads were last redone.
City Solicitor Toni Cherry was directed to create the necessary ordinance or ordinances by unanimous council votes. Cherry stated she would have to check to see if she could bundle the roads into one ordinance or not.
The council passed a resolution stating the city’s intent to possibly refinance the city’s 2009 and 2011 series bonds and issue a 2012 series. Suplizio stated that this would save the city potentially thousands of dollars, which could be used for another small project. He stated the resolution had to be passed for the council members to be allowed to officially begin discussing and researching the issue. The city would still need to vote in the future to go complete the process.
