BRADFORD – A 65-year-old Bradford man, Harold L. Peabody, sustained severe burns and remains in critical condition after his home caught fire sometime Thursday on 33 Hawthorne Rd. in Bradford, according to the Ridgway-based state police.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, the Bradford City police and fire departments and the McKean County District Attorney’s Office investigated the origin and cause of the fire. The fire caused severe burn injuries to Peabody.
The fire occurred sometime between 10 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. Thursday, when Peabody’s roommate returned and discovered the home full of smoke. Peabody was lying on the living room floor with severe burns to the majority of his body, state police said.
Peabody was at home alone at the time of the fire. He was initially transferred to the Bradford Regional Medical Center before being flown to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. Peabody was listed in critical condition.
Fire damage was contained to the living room area of the home, and a monetary estimate is not available at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation; however, foul play is not suspected, state police said.
