Carl Richard Mandel, 66, of Philipsburg died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012 at his residence.
Born March 23, 1946 at home in Decatur Township, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Sylvia (Swartz) Mandel.
Mr. Mandel was a graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. He was a bricklayer for 30-plus years at J.H. France Refactories, Snow Shoe.
He was a member of the Philipsburg VFW Louis P. Jenkins Post 3450, Snow Shoe Moose and Gearhartville Sportsmen’s Club.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and served on the USS America.
Mr. Mandel was a member of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Chester Hill.
He’s survived by a godmother and aunt, Catherine Mandel and her husband, Ed Tubo of Philipsburg; an uncle John Mandel and his wife, Ann of Glass City; an aunt Mary Evans of Philipsburg; and several cousins.
He was the last of his generation.
Mr. Mandel was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Norma Jean Roelker.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, with the Very Rev. John Horosky officiating. Burial will follow at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
