BELLEFONTE — After already competing in two invitationals, the Clearfield girls and boys cross country squads got to open up their dual meet season Tuesday at Bellefonte in a tri-meet that also included Philipsburg-Osceola.
The girsl got off to a great start by picking up two wins, while the boys team beat Philipsburg-Osceola, but lost to the host team.
Head coach John Jacob had praise for both of his teams, “This was a very good meet for both the girl’s and boy’s teams. We have been working on pacing for the first mile of our race so that we have the energy to race the second half and last mile. All of the runners were able to pick up key places to lead their teams to victory. Jon Sponsler had an exceptional race starting back in the pack and eventually working his way up to third place overall. Claire Mikesell also ran very well and was able to capture her first career victory by passing Bellefonte runner Alexis Franks in the third mile.”
