CLEARFIELD – A Sept. 11, 2001 memorial ceremony will held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the courthouse steps, according to event organizer Marv Smith.
Smith said after last year’s 10th anniversary service, he would like to hold similar events each year. He said this year it will be a “simple service” that consists of a wreath laying as well as the raising of the memorial flag.
In addition, he said the American flag will be replaced at the same time. The new flag will fly at half-staff, along with the memorial flag, until sunset. The memorial flag will then be brought down.
Smith said the memorial wreath will likely be made of red and white carnations with a patriotic bow. He said it will be presented at the memorial stone that was installed last year for the 10th anniversary.
Brenda Weber will also be in attendance to perform the national anthem.
Smith said the ceremony will be brief and is expected to last 20 to 30 minutes. He said, “It’s a simple recognition to say thank you.”
The Clearfield County Commissioners approved for Smith to use the courthouse square for the ceremony and to cover the costs related to the memorial wreath.
