CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield YMCA has announced its schedule of fall programs.
Beginner Swim Team
Join us for the Beginner Swim Team. It is for new members only there participants shouldn’t have previous swim team experience. The clinic goal is to join the 2012-13 YMCA Sharks Winter Swim Team.
Requirements are: the participant must be able to swim in deep water and is comfortable with their face in the water. Space is limited and is ages seven through 12 years. The clinic will be from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sept. 10 – Oct. 15. The fee is $50 per swimmer, and the instructor is Jackie Morrison.
Championship Racing Skills
If you would like to improve your swimming in specific areas of competitive swimming, join the YMCA for its Championship Racing Skills clinic. There is a minimum of one year competitive swim team experience required. You must also be proficient in all four competitive strokes.
The goal of this clinic is to improve each swimmer in specific areas of competitive swimming. Swimmers will be provided detailed skill instruction that will offer the swimmers a competitive edge in swim racing. Sessions will include instruction in all strokes, focusing on proper streamline techniques, starts, turns, breakouts, underwater dolphin bodylines, finishes, race preparation and race strategies. Space is limited and it’s for ages nine through 14 years. The clinic will be held from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Sept. 10 – Oct. 15. The fee is $60 and the instructor is Randy Pollick.
Clinic Schedule:
Week 1: Streamline body position and breakouts and underwater swims
Week 2: Starts, Routines, Entries and breakouts
Week 3: Turns, Free/Back
Week 4: Turns, Breast/Fly
Week 5: Finishes, IM turns and relay takeoffs
Week 6: Review and time trials
A Wesminster Swim Clinic will be held from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sept. 14 and from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sept. 15.
This camp will focus on individual analysis of the four strokes, starts and turns, as well as the importance of visualization, nutrition and strength training. Camp is limited to 36 participants and the cost is $40 per swimmer or $60 per swimmer with videotaping. This camp will offer a personalized video analysis on technique. If choosing this option, add an additional $20 per swimmer. You will watch your video with the Wesminster coaches at the clinic and then receive your video on a memory stick a few days after the clinic.
Scramble Golf Tournament
On Friday, Sept. 7, get a team of four together to play in our golf tournament and have fun while supporting the YMCA. The tournament begins at 12 p.m. with a shotgun start. Golf format will be a four-person scramble with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start that includes golf cart, shirt, drinks, a Y logo hat and dinner. If you have a partner or guest that you would like to invite to dinner, tickets are $20. If you can’t play, you can always support the YMCA by sponsoring a tee.
YMCA Haunted House
Join us for a haunting good time Oct. 26 – 27. Haunting commences at 7 p.m. and concludes at 9 p.m. with apple cider and donuts offered for any survivors. Cost is $5 per person. We do not disapprove of younger ones entering our house. However, if we feel the need to do away with a child who gets too spooked, we will remove them to a safe place.
Y Swim-Y-Thon
Join us Saturday, Oct. 18 for our Swim-Y-Thon from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Swim as many laps as possible in an hour. The idea is to get as many sponsors as you can to support how many laps they think you can swim. All money raised will go towards the Y Aquatics Program. All swimmers must raise $20 in order to receive a Y gym bag.
Laps will be counted as one 50-yard lap (up and back). All swimmers will have one week to collect all money from their sponsors. Swim times are open for all age groups. Earlier times will be given on a first come first served basis.
Ballroom Dance Lessons
The lessons are beginning Sept.7 and dances introduced will depend on student interest and prior experience. Selection of dances include: Cha Cha, Fox Trot, Jitterbug, Mambo, Rhumba, Polka, Merengue, Tango, Samba and Waltz.
First class will be a two-hour class to determine the skill level of participants. Classes are from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Fridays. It is free for YMCA members and $5 per class for non-members. The instructor is Carol Ferranti.
Youth Basketball League
Join us for our Youth Basketball League beginning Oct. 20. The league will consist of two, 8-week sessions. Session 1 will run from Oct. 20 – Dec. 22, while Session 2 runs from Feb. 2, 2013 – March 23, 2013. Session 1 will have no league play on Nov. 17 or Dec. 8. Games will be played from 9:15 am – 12 p.m. Saturdays.
Volunteer coaches are needed. Please contact Vanessa Johnson at the YMCA at 765-5521 for more information. The goal of the league is to develop skills, such as dribbling, passing and shooting. Youth participants from Kindergarten through fourth grade are welcome. Each team will play eight games and every player will receive a YMCA Youth Basketball T-shirt.
It is $20 for members $20 and $40 for non-members.
A new Water Aerobics Class will be starting from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sept. 18.
All participants will need to purchase a water belt. The YMCA will have them on sale.
