HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP – No injuries were reported following a two-vehicle accident at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 22 along state Routes 66 and 948 in Highland Township, the Ridgway-based state police reported.
Dean K. Anderson, 38, of Ridgway and Eric D. Vinson, 46, of Clarion were traveling southbound on SR 66, just south of its intersection with SR 948. Both vehicles were approaching a backlog of traffic stopped in a construction zone.
As the Vinson vehicle began slowing, the Anderson vehicle attempted the same. However, Anderson’s brakes failed with both the front and rear brake lines blowing. As a result, the Anderson vehicle rear-ended the Vinson vehicle, which hadn’t yet stopped.
Vinson utilized his brakes to bring both vehicles to a controlled stop along the east berm. The Anderson vehicle sustained “heavy” damage to its front end. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
