HYDE — The Clearfield girls wrestling team hosted and won its own Lady Bison Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
Clearfield’s contingent of 10 girls were a combined 17-9 in the round robin format, scoring 129.5 points to easily outdistance runner-up Huntingdon, which recorded 90 points.
All 17 of the Lady Bison’s wins came by fall — 14 pins and three technical falls.
Finley Gilbert was the lone Clearfield wrestler to get five bouts and she made the most of it, going 5-0 with five pins to win the 124-pound weight class. Lady Bison 112-pounder Kylie Knepp put together a 3-1 day with two technical falls and a pin on the way to a second-place finish.
Gabbie Duncan (118), Angela Rougeaux (130) and Ivy Sanders (136) each wrestled three times. Rougeux was 3-0 with three pins and placed first, Duncan (third place) went 1-2 with a pin and Sanders (fourth place) was 0-3.
Kendall Candalaria (142) and Makayla Taylor (155) both went 2-0 to take first at their weights. Candalaria had two pins and Taylor notched a pin and a tech. Aylee Johnston (170) finished the day 1-1 with a pin, while Alara Quickel (148) was 0-2. Both were second. Lady Bison Meredith Switala was the only 190-pounder at the tournament and took first.
The Lady Bison junior high team also took first. Lizzy Freeland (77-93), Ashley Rougeux (103), Lily McBride (110), Margaret Duke (117-125) and Mya Ludwig (148-155) won their weight classes. Piper Kaskan (77-93) and Myiah Nelson (110) took second. Alexa Knepp (77-93), Gabbie Hockenberry (117-125) and Haydon Spencer (135) placed third, while Miley Reams (117-125) was fourth.
Clearfield is back in action January 4 at the Curwensville Tournament.
