DUBOIS – Marking the end of their educational journey that has been filled with hard work and dedication, graduates from Penn State DuBois, along with their family and friends, gathered in Hiller Auditorium on Friday, Dec. 20, to celebrate their accomplishments during the campus’ fall 2024 commencement celebration.
Jungwoo Ryoo, chancellor and chief academic officer, gave his opening remarks, welcoming everyone to campus and congratulating the graduates on achieving their goals and earning their degrees.
Emily Thomas, associate teaching professor of wildlife technology and DuBois Educational Foundation educator of the year, gave the commencement address. She offered the new graduates some advice from a fellow Penn State alumna.
“First, keep your career dreams alive,” Thomas said. “You chose to come to Penn State DuBois to further your education in a field that means something to you. Second, although you are already adults, know that you will continue to grow over time and that your priorities are likely to shift, and that’s OK. You will always have your Penn State degree to help you along your career path. Finally, know the importance of surrounding yourself with good people. If you have people in the audience today who are here to support you, please be thankful for them. They are extremely proud of you.”
After the graduates were presented with their degrees, Michael White, Penn State DuBois Alumni Society President, congratulated all the graduates and officially welcomed them into the Penn State Alumni Association. He also invited all Penn State alumni in attendance to be recognized as well.
The celebration continued with the honored tradition of the singing of the Penn State Alma Mater. After its conclusion, Ryoo gave one final message to the new graduates.
“Going forward, we are confident that you will ensure that Penn State’s core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, discovery, excellence and community are lived each and every day,” Ryoo said. “Go forth, be Penn State proud, and remain deeply devoted to your Alma Mater, forever and always.”
