DUBOIS – The City of DuBois on Monday night finalized its 2025 budget.
The upcoming-year’s budget doesn’t include any tax or water rate changes; however, it does include a sewer rate increase of $2 per thousand gallons.
There’s also potential for future rate increases due to costs associated with the new wastewater treatment plant and the city’s efforts to align its rates with that of Sandy Township.
Council Member Elliot Gelfand was the lone nay vote.
Meeting Schedule
In 2025, the City of DuBois—like Sandy Township—will change its public meeting schedule.
Both will hold their regular meeting after the DuBois/Sandy Consolidation Joint Board meeting, which is held the third Wednesday of every month.
Meetings will remain at 6 p.m.
Because the City of DuBois—by law—is required to meet twice monthly, it will bring back work session meetings in 2025 on the Monday nine days prior to the third Wednesday.
It was noted that council will not vote on any matters during the work session meetings.
These meetings will mainly be informational, though, when needed, could be utilized as a regular voting meeting with the proper advertisement.
HR Position
The City of DuBois will also seek a human resources administrator—a matter that received approval from the Consolidation Joint Board.
It’s a position sought by DuBois/Sandy Manager Kafferlin Strategies as the DuBois/Sandy consolidation nears completion.
According to co-manager Lisa Hagberg, both municipalities have aspects of human resources handled by their individual Accounting Departments; however, consolidation will change their situation.
She said the Accounting Department is seeing more financial work, and once they become one municipality, there will be around 90 employees, which in turn will increase the amount of HR work.
She said the HR administrator will be responsible for uniform and non-uniformed city employees, and paid a salary of up to $72,000, plus benefits.
