DUBOIS – DuBois City Council on Monday night took action to advertise a new assistant manager/economic development coordinator position.

The annual salary for this position would range between $70,000 and $90,000, with healthcare and pension. Council voted, 4-1, to advertise the position.

Council Member Shane Dietz questioned the action, asking why it was being advertised when there were existing employees with overlapping responsibilities.

Dietz cast the lone opposing vote, stating he wanted the city to explore the matter further.

Council Member Jim Aughenbaugh did note that he was voting in favor, knowing it wouldn’t be the final vote concerning this matter.

The DuBois/Sandy Consolidation Joint Board also needs to give approval of the position.

DuBois Mayor Pat Reasinger said the new position would require a college degree as the individual would be working closely with City/Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh.

Bridge Reconstruction

Council also voted Monday night to advertise for bids for the reconstruction of two bridges within the city.

The bridges are located on West Long Avenue (over Pentz Run) and Fourth Street (over Reasinger Run).  A 2023 NBIS inspection found both were in need of repair work.

The total cost is expected to fall between $200,000 and $250,000. The city is seeking outside funding, such as the Bridge Reimbursement Program through PennDOT.

If it’s unable to secure sufficient funds from outside sources, the city plans to utilize its liquid fuel funds.

The West Long Avenue Bridge already has weight limits imposed upon it, and requires repairs to the culvert and waterproofing.

The Fourth Street Bridge requires repairs to the concrete superstructure and bridge beams.
