DUBOIS – The DuBois/Sandy Joint Consolidation Board on Wednesday heard Clearfield County hotel tax information.
County Commissioner Tim Winters—who also sits on the Recreation & Tourism Authority—said the authority receives a 5-percent hotel tax.
Monies are subsequently distributed through the authority’s grant/sponsorship program, with awards happening after an application and review process.
September is a key month in this process, Winters said.
From 2020 – 2023, the DuBois area requested monies totaling $195,000 and was awarded $95,000 for “non-baseball” requests.
In 2020 and 2022 – 2024, there was an additional $90,000 awarded for baseball-related requests to various organizations.
For more information, Winters said board members could contact the Visit Clearfield County office.
In other business, the board:
- voted to remove City/Township Engineer Chris Nasuti from the Tax Structure, Budget and Utility User Fee Subcommittee due to his resignation as city/township engineer. He will be replaced by Scott Farrell.
- authorized the municipalities to advertise for the following positions: Sandy Township Planner/Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer; Sandy Township Public Works Director; and DuBois City Engineer.
- reported the development of a job description for a hypothetical “Parks and Recreation Director” position. Council Member Elliot Gelfand suggested they prioritize an “Economic Development” position, and permit that individual to decide if a Parks and Recreation Director is needed.
