CLEARFIELD – During colloquy court on Monday, a Brockway woman accused of stealing a truck from a pizza place pleaded guilty.
Dana Nicole Thomas, 38, pleaded guilty to felony theft for removing the truck from a business in Sandy Township on July 3.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an employee of the restaurant reported to police that his truck that had been parked behind the business was missing.
He related that he had just returned from delivering pizza. He went inside the building for a short time, and when he went back outside, it was gone. He admitted he did leave the keys in the truck and the doors were not locked.
On July 5, a man reported that he found the truck on his property on Parrott Road in Sandy Township. The vehicle was recovered and taken to the police impound lot.
Inside it, officers found a receipt from a gas station dated July 4. They were able to get the surveillance video from the business and identified Thomas as the driver.
When Thomas was initially questioned about the truck, she claimed a friend had given her the truck to use for a few days and she had returned it to him.
In September, when she was questioned again, she admitted she took the truck.
She explained she was outside when it began raining and she did not have a ride. She opened the truck and saw the keys were in it.
She “decided to take it to stay dry,” she said. She also admitted she was under the influence of heroin when she made the decision to steal the truck.
Prior to sentencing on Monday, Thomas apologized to the victims.
President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman sentenced her to serve nine months to 18 months in the county jail with two years concurrent probation. She was ordered to pay over $500 in restitution.
In a second case, she pleaded guilty to felony retail theft, misdemeanor flight to avoid apprehension and possession of a controlled substance for an incident at a supermarket on Jan. 2.
For this, she was given a concurrent term of six months to one year in the jail with one year concurrent probation. She will pay over $100 in restitution for this theft.
In a third case, she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and was given one year concurrent probation.
