WINGATE — Bison baseball returned to the diamond Monday afternoon after a trip to Bald Eagle. The humid day game started at 4:30 and saw Clearfield fall to Bald Eagle 5-4.
Hunter Rumsky took the mound for the Bison to face Tayten Yoder and his squad.
Bald Eagle’s bats were off to the races in the bottom of the first. A double to lead off from Kahle Burns was issued before Gavin Burns was walked. Carson Nagle walked to load the bases before Brayden Dubbs stepped up with a single to score a pair of runs and give Bald Eagle a 2-0 lead. Kaden Burns added to the lead with an RBI single, 3-0.
In the of the third inning for the Bison, back-to-back walks were issued to Cole Bloom and Anthony Lopez before O’Brian Owens hit a single to score Bloom and make the score 3-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kaden Burns got a hold of a ball and hit a solo homerun over the left field wall and make the game 4-1 Bald Eagle.
Teagun Runkle led off the bottom of the sixth with a base hit and C Perry walked. Camron Watkins laid down a sacrifice bunt advance the runners to second and third. An intentional walk loaded the bases before Gavin Burns was beaned to make it 5-1. Rumsky’s day ended here as Elijah Quick got the last two outs of the inning.
Clearfield put some pressure on Bald Eagle in the top of the seventh and final inning. Christain Welker and Rumsky hit a pair of singles, then Matt Irvin brought in Welker with a single, 5-2 Bald Eagle. Quick, in his first at bat of the game, scored Rumsky on a single of his own, making it 5-3. Lopez then hit a double to cut the lead to 5-4. Relief pitcher Westin McClain got the final out of the game to cut the rally short, as Bald Eagle won 5-4
Clearfield fell to 4-7, while Bald Eagle stayed hot and improved to 12-2. The Bison return home to face Somerset Tuesday at 4:30.
