CLEARFIELD – Local restaurant Spanky’s Courthouse Cafe will be hosting a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in early May 2024.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on May 2.
Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owners Heather and Rob Inguagiato about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Rob’s parents, Mona and Thomas ‘Spanky’ Rauch, began the restaurant over 30 years ago as ‘Spanky’s Tacos’. After 25 years in business in downtown Clearfield, Spanky’s Courthouse Cafe expanded in 2022 by purchasing and renovating the space next door, formerly LeFort’s Sweet Shop. Seating capacity doubled from about 50 to 100, according to Rob.
The no-frills interior celebrates the community by showcasing local business, by putting up signs, pictures and advertising. Dark maroon walls are set off by a bright white ceiling, and cozy booths line the walls. Last summer a new sign was added to the exterior of the storefront.
Spanky’s opens daily at 6 a.m., and offers a full breakfast and lunch menu and daily specials. Burgers, hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soups, dinners and appetizers round out the menu, ensuring something for everyone, and Rob notes that you better bring your appetite.

“I would say don’t come here if you ain’t hungry, because you get a lot of food,” he says, adding that the food is high quality and the service is top notch.
He teaches his staff to never let a customer leave unhappy, and his ultimate goal is to build a legacy in the town.
“We’re proud of our service,” he continues. “We’re a breakfast diner; we serve the downtown area. We have a huge, huge everyday regular crowd; some people eat here two to three times a day, seven days a week. For some people, it’s their only social event of the day. They’re like family.”
Popular menu items that may be featured on the episode include the omelets – “largest omelet in the state of Pennsylvania,” says Rob – the country fried steak, so large it overlaps the plate and the homemade bread, made daily and a staple item since the restaurant opened.
America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on-location on Thursday May 2, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST. The press is invited to attend.
The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on its Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ Web site.
Restaurants featured on the ABR Roadshow are found through customer nominations or by a restaurant applying to be featured at www.americasbestrestaurants.com.
