CLEARFIELD – District Attorney Ryan Sayers and Child Advocacy Center Director Dr. Mary Tatum wish to inform the public that April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
This month and throughout the year, the Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office and the Clearfield County Child Advocacy Center (CAC-CC) encourage all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Clearfield County a better place for children and families.
This can be achieved by ensuring that parents/guardians have the knowledge of parenting, knowledge of child development, parental resilience, social connections and concrete supports.
Research shows that when parents/guardians possess these protective factors, the risk for neglect and abuse diminishes and optimal outcomes for children, youth and families are promoted.
“April is a time that we can help spread awareness about child abuse and ways that it can be prevented,” Sayers stated.
This year, the Child Advocacy Center of Clearfield County is asking community members to wear blue.
Blue is the color of Child Abuse Prevention Month, and getting your picture wearing blue is a great way to show support.
After you take your picture, e-mail it to clearfieldcacpa@gmail.com with your name, and CAC-CC will post it on its Facebook page.
“It is important to remember that child abuse is 100 percent preventable and helping raise awareness about prevention is a powerful tool in creating change,” Dr. Tatum stated.
The CAC-CC is part of the Clearfield County Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT) that is comprised of the Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Clearfield, PSP DuBois, PSP Punxsutawney, DuBois City Police Department, Sandy Township Police Department, Clearfield Regional Police Department, Curwensville Borough Police Department, Bigler Township Police Department, Clearfield Children, Youth, and Family Services, Community Action Inc.’s Crossroads Project, Passages, Inc., the Office of Victim Witness, CenClear and John Bacher, CRNP.
This team of people works with child victims and their families from the outcry of abuse throughout the criminal justice process and after.
