CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man convicted of robbery was given additional time in state prison after he pleaded guilty to felony drug charges Tuesday during sentencing court.
Matthew Wayne Pearson II, 28, was sentenced by Judge Paul E. Cherry to serve nine months to three years in state prison for possessing 2.5 grams of methamphetamine when he was searched by DuBois City police in June 2023.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police spotted Pearson, whom they knew had active warrants walking near North Brady Street. He was taken into custody and searched.
In his pockets, they found marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The woman he was walking with also had warrants for unpaid fines at a district magistrate’s office.
The new sentence will run consecutive to his current sentence of six months to five years for the robbery of a man at his DuBois home in September 2022.
Pearson and another man, Alexander C. Bohensky, assaulted the victim before taking over $4,200 in cash from him, according to previous articles.
Afterward, the perpetrators fled the scene, but a witness directed police to a Grant Street residence where they located Pearson on the second floor and Bohensky hiding under a blanket between a washing machine and wall.
Police say Person had $2,500 in cash and Bohensky had $2,260, all in twenties.
The victim and witness told investigators that both men were in his home when the two started to fight with him. The witness tried to get between the three of them but was pushed away.
She said they took the victim to the ground and struck him with closed fists. While he was down, they reportedly continued to strike and kick him.
One of them said: “I got it! Come on!” before fleeing, according to the criminal complaint.
When they were gone, the victim checked his pockets and discovered they had taken the cash from him, he told police.
He had this amount of cash on hand to pay attorney fees totaling $4,000, but he had a few hundred more than he owed, he explained. The money was all in twenty dollar bills.
Bohensky is also serving up to ten years in state prison for the robbery and other crimes.
