CLARION — The District 9 AA wrestling defending champion Clearfield Bison look like they have no plans on not defending their 2023 title as they posted a 15-2 record on Friday at the Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on the PennWest Clarion University campus.
Twelve of those 15 wins were by fall, putting the Bison out in front of runner-up Port Allegany 104-88 in the 16-team field.
All 13 Bison matmen are still in the hunt for a berth in next week’s North West Regional Tournament in Sharon.
Reaching Saturday morning’s semifinals, which start at 10:00 AM, are Dakota Shugarts (20-13) at 114, Cash Diehl (26-9) at 121, Bryndin Chamberlain (21-15) at 127, Colton Ryan (30-11) at 133, Colton Bumbarger (21-14) at 139, Ty Aveni (30-16) at 145, Brady Bollins (37-2) at 152, Will Domico (22-12) at 160,Carter Freeland (12-8) at 172, Carter Chamberlain (27-7) at 189, and Nick Bailor (16-15) at 285.
Winners advance to the finals which are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM
Still alive in the wrestlebacks, and looking for a top-4 finish so they can advance to regionals, are Xavier Lutz (17-17) at 107 and Hunter Ressler (17-18) at 215.
All but Domico and Carter Chamberlain are underclassmen.
