CLEARFIELD – During sentencing court Monday, a Punxsutawney man pleaded guilty to having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Hunter Lee Vroman, 22, had been charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and corruption of minors, all felonies, as well as indecent assault person less than 16-years-old, and sell/furnishing liquor to minors in relation to his actions on June 1 at a Clearfield Borough home.
The affidavit in this cases details how Randi Jo Marie Bambarger, 22, of Clearfield invited Vroman and Craig William Marshall, 20, of Reynoldsville to her home where the victim was staying. While there, the four drank beer, twisted tea, mixed drinks and vodka.
The victim told investigators that she drank “a lot” and was “feeling good.”
She explained Bambarger and Marshall went into a bedroom, leaving her with Vroman. After the two of them lay down on the mattress, Vroman tried to initiate sex. She said she kept telling him no, but “then gave up, when he kept trying.”
She had trouble recalling details because she had been drinking, according to the report.
In an interview with authorities, at first Vroman denied having intercourse with her, but eventually stated he had “consensual sex” with the girl.
Vroman pleaded guilty Monday to felony statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors and misdemeanor indecent assault.
Prior to sentencing, a statement from the girl’s mother was read saying the victim is strong and will not allow “someone like you to destroy her.” She asked President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to give him the maximum sentence.
District Attorney Ryan Sayers suggested Ammerman give Vroman up to a 10-year maximum sentence because he wants him monitored.
Defense attorney Lance Marshall stated that Vroman was taking responsibility for his actions, adding that alcohol was involved. He asked for a county jail sentence.
After considering this, Ammerman sentenced Vroman to nine months to five years in state prison. Vroman must complete sex offender counseling and although he was found not to be a sexually-violent predator, he must register with authorities under Megan’s Law.
Bambarger and Marshall are both facing charges for this incident.
Bambarger is charged with felony counts of corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children, in addition to two misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and corruption of minors. Marshall is charged with felony corruption of minors.
Their cases are scheduled for criminal call on Feb. 29.
In a second case, Vroman pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and a summary charge for which he received concurrent probationary periods.
