BROCKWAY — A new week welcomed action on the hardwood as the Curwensville Lady Tide continued their month-long grind on the road as the squad loaded up the bus once more for a trip up the interstate to take on the Lady Rovers of Brockway. Head Coach Dawna Wheeler had her squad ready and early on the Tide kept the battle tight, and the confidence was flowing.
In an instant, things went awry, and it cost Curwensville as they would fall for the fourth consecutive game to start the season, 60-32.
In the opening quarter, both Brockway and Curwensville battled a tight game. Neither team had a true advantage, even with the Lady Rovers holding a mere one-point advantage. But, the second quarter was outright dominant by the home squad. Defensively, the Rovers boxed out, and offensively took advantage of every opportunity. In doing so, Curwensville was forced to take the 14 points they scored in the first eight minutes as the only points they scored the entire first half, falling behind 27-14 courtesy of a scoreless second quarter.
Curwensville managed to get back on the board in the third, but Brockway broke things open in a big way as they put up 24 points in the quarter.
With the running clock in effect, the Tide had no chance to catch up, and headed into the locker room still seeking answers to get their first win on the season.
Brockway’s Sophia Schmander led all scoring with a game-high 25 points. Teammates Rheanna Spinda and Sophia Morrison added in 13 and 11 points, respectively. For Curwensville, Karleigh Freyer would be the lone Tide player in double figures, finishing with 14 points.
There is little time to recoup as the Lady Tide (0-4) continue their December road trip as they travel to Claysburg-Kimmel on Tuesday night.
