CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield school board added a second assistant principal to its elementary administration Monday night.

Dr. Shaina Franson will fill the second assistant elementary principal position at Clearfield Area Elementary School.

Franson’s effective date is to be determined at a salary of $82,000 as part of the Administrative Act 93 Group.

Franson will join the current administration that includes Principal Ken Veihdeffer and Assistant Principal Justin Hazelton.

Veihdeffer and Hazelton have been tasked with the oversight of about 150 staff members, plus 1,100 students.

“For almost 10 years, we’ve tried to run the building with just a principal and an assistant,” said Superintendent Terry Struble in May.

Additionally, behavioral challenges haven’t been diminishing since the COVID pandemic and “so there’s definitely a need.”

Franson brings 19 years of teaching experience with the Curwensville Area School District including 15 years at the kindergarten level.

“We’re really excited to welcome her with all the experience she brings to that early stage [of learning],” said Struble, “and I know she’s excited, too.”
