Virginia Woman Killed in I-80 Crash

BRADFORD TOWNSHIP – One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash Tuesday on Interstate 80 in Clearfield County.

The crash occurred at 4:48 p.m. on I-80 east in Bradford Township, according to a news release issued by Clearfield-based state police.

State police say 32-year-old Yash Bhatt of Lorton, Va., lost control of his vehicle while traveling on the wet roadway and spun out.

Because he was unable to regain control, it exited the north side of the roadway, impacted a guiderail end and overturned.

A passenger—Nirali Y. Bhatt, 29, also of Lorton, Va.—was partially ejected and pinned underneath the vehicle, state police say.

She was not wearing a safety belt, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Clearfield County Coroner’s office.

Yash Bhatt was wearing a safety belt and an infant passenger was secured in a car seat, according to the report.

Both were transported by ambulance from the scene for evaluation and treatment at Penn Highlands Clearfield Hospital.

State police were assisted by Moshannon valley and Clearfield EMS, Hummels Wharf Fire-Rescue, BJW and Morris Township fire companies, PennDOT and towing services.
