CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield school board is bolstering school security before the start of the new academic year.
On Monday, it approved a new five-year pact with the Lawrence Township police to provide two school resource officers.
The board plans to have an SRO stationed on both the junior-senior high and elementary campuses.
Charles Marshall started as SRO for Clearfield schools in 2018, and will be joined this year by fellow township officer Levi Olson.
Marshall introduced Olson whom he’s worked with closely for nearly a decade.
“He was my partner on night shift for many years before I came into the school district,” he said.
Marshall assured the board that Olson is a “family man,” and knows the expectations that come with the SRO position.
“He knows the motto: ‘when parents send their kids to school, they expect them to return [home] the way that they came.’”
Olson looks forward to getting to know the Clearfield administration and faculty but especially the students.
Olson, who has completed tactical training on-campus, also vowed that “security won’t be an issue.”
Marshall thanked the board for its commitment to protect every child in the district.
Also, on Monday, the board approved the hiring of Justin Hazelton as assistant principal at Clearfield Area Elementary School.
He previously worked at Clearfield and as principal for Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School, said Superintendent Terry Struble.
Hazelton is set to make an annual salary of $90,000 in his new post. His start date is pending completion of paperwork.
