BELLEFONTE – The visiting Lady Bison of Clearfield improved to 2-0 on the young 2022 campaign with a 4-3 come-from-behind road victory over Mountain League foe Bellefonte (2-2) Tuesday evening.
After falling behind 1-0 on a Taylor Brown solo blast in the home half of the second, the visiting Lady Bison would string together a two-out rally in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. After two quick outs, Alexis “Lexi” Cole picked up her first varsity hit to keep the inning alive. Ruby Singleton followed up Cole with a two-out double to put two in scoring position with Emma Hipps due up next. The pitcher supported her own cause with another double to plate Cole and Singleton to give Clearfield their first lead of the game, 2-1.
From there, Bellefonte pitcher, Josselyn Nau, and Hipps continued in a pitcher’s dual as they kept the opponent out of the scoring column until the top of the sixth in which Singleton blasted a lead-off solo-homer to center for her first varsity home run to make it a 3-1 lead for the visitors.
Clearfield would add one more in the inning as Hipps followed Singleton with a triple and was plated on a Lauren Ressler single, which made it a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Lady Raiders of Bellefonte would get two back in the home half of the sixth as Sienna Barnhart reached on a one out walk. After the second out of the inning, Brown came through with her second hit of the game to put two on with two out.
Nau supported her own cause with a bases clearing double to left, which scored Barnhart and Brown to cut the lead to 4-3. Hipps worked out of the jam with a strikeout to help Clearfield stay on top by one going into the seventh inning.
Kylee Hertlein reached on a single in the seventh, but the Lady Bison could not manufacture a run and remained on top by one going into the final half inning.
Hipps would strikeout two more of 10 total for the game to pick up her second win in the circle on the season and help Clearfield pick up a narrow 4-3 win.
Clearfield (2-0), will have a quick turnaround as the team hits the road for the second straight day to square off against Huntingdon Wednesday evening. The Mountain League showdown is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
