CLEARFIELD – An Osceola Mills man charged with aggravated assault for trying to disarm a trooper pleaded guilty to lesser charges Tuesday in Clearfield County Court.
Clinton J. Rosselli, 39, pleaded guilty to simple assault and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, and received a state prison sentence of three months to two years from President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman.
Prior to sentencing, Ammerman questioned the trooper who stated he agreed with the felony counts of aggravated assault and disarming an officer being dropped in the case.
Rosselli was also charged and pleaded guilty in a related case with felony escape, and in two other cases with felony theft and felony possession with intent to deliver.
In total, he received a sentence of 24 months to 10 years in state prison.
The charges in the assault case stem from an incident in Bradford Township on Nov. 24 after Rosselli, who had warrants for his arrest, was seen at a convenience store.
The trooper went into the store where he found Rosselli sitting at a Skills machine. When he called out “Clinton”, Rosselli looked up at the trooper who told him he was going to detain him due to the warrants.
According to the affidavit, Rosselli resisted being handcuffed and began to wrestle with the trooper. As they wrestled, Rosselli tried to get his gun. The trooper let go of Rosselli in order to secure his gun leading to Rosselli, who was now on top, pinning the trooper’s head to the floor.
It was only after another trooper arrived on the scene and physically removed Rosselli that the two men were able to gain control and take him into custody, police said.
He was transported to Penn Highlands Clearfield for treatment of minor injuries.
While he was in the process of getting a CAT scan, his handcuffs were removed. Once the test was complete, he was pushed out of the scan room on a hospital bed into a hallway.
According to the affidavit in this case, he jumped off the bed, ran to the exit and into the parking lot where he started to run up a hill. A trooper followed him and tased Rosselli twice before taking him into custody again.
The theft case involves him stealing money collected from a Skills machine that was behind a counter at a Clearfield hotel on Jan. 26, 2021. Security footage shows him retrieving the funds after an employee went to the bathroom.
On Feb. 22, 2021, police spotted Rosselli in a vehicle traveling near Hyde and stopped him, knowing he had a warrant for the theft case.
He was found to be carrying over five grams of methamphetamine.
