PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney woman has been charged with DUI, child endangerment, and related charges after she was stopped by PSP Punxsutawney for a vehicle safety violation.
According to court documents, Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 28-year-old Brianna Nicole Gummo.
According to a criminal complaint filed on February 14 in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office, the incident occurred around 12:55 p.m. on Pine Street, near its intersection with Gilpin Street, in Punxsutawney Borough, Jefferson County, involving Brianna Gummo.
A Punxsutawney-based State Police Trooper was traveling south on North Findley Street, in the Borough of Punxsutawney, and observed a 2000 Jeep Cherokee without any form of exhaust system traveling directly in front of him. The vehicle turned left onto Pine Street, and the trooper activated his vehicle’s emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.
During the traffic stop, the trooper observed that the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, Brianna Gummo, had signs of DUI, the complaint notes.
According to the complaint, upon investigation, it was determined that Gummo was under the influence of a drug/or combination of drugs to a degree that impaired her ability to safely drive or operate the vehicle. In addition, Gummo possessed a clear plastic straw wrapped in black electrical tape with suspected drug residue, two orange plastic syringe caps, and one clear plastic syringe cap.
During the traffic stop, the trooper also noted there was a child as a rear-seat passenger and a male adult as a front-seat passenger.
The following charges were filed against Gummo:

– Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense Felony 2
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2
– Careless Driving, Summary
– Reckless Driving, Summary
– Driving Without a License, Summary

– Failure to Use Safety Belt – Driver and Front Seat Occupant, Summary

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 3. at 11:30 a.m. with Judge Mizerock presiding.
