CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Police Chief Vincent McGinnis is encouraging all residents to be mindful and aware of another telephone scam in the area.
At Thursday’s council meeting, McGinnis reported that unknown individuals are calling residents posing as attorneys and saying that their loved one has been involved in an accident and is facing arrest and in need of bail money.
The unknown individual then sends someone to the victim’s residence to collect the money, he said. McGinnis was adamant about reminding residents to be careful about what information they give out and if residents see suspicious activity to contact the police department.
Street Foreman Todd Kling reported that the borough’s street sweeper is in need of some repairing, as a hood underneath it is disintegrating.
It is not due to neglect, just normal wear and tear over time, Kling said, and the part would cost around $2,900 to replace.
He requested council to consider fixing it as soon as possible, and a motion was then made and seconded to purchase the part to fix the street sweeper.
Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack introduced Andrea Stewart as the new code enforcement officer. Mack announced he would be retiring back in November.
Mayor Mason Strouse would like residents to know that there is a flag drop-off box outside of the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library courtesy of an Eagle Scout project.
Strouse also encourages residents to slow down when traveling through the borough, especially in the area South Fourth Street.
Council approved the vacancy of part of Fulton Street, which has been vacant for years; however, the process was never documented.
Council approved closure of the streets in the Clearfield Driving Park on June 4 for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
Council approved to advertise for an opening for a part-time secretary for the borough’s police station. It also approved to advertise the 2008 Dodge Charger for sale on Municibid.
