ALEXANDRIA — A Saturday matinee for the Curwensville Lady Tide was on the docket after having a couple postponements get rescheduled. What it also meant was loading up the buses early so the team could be on the road, ready to take on the Lady Hornets of Juniata Valley.
It ultimately led to a quick turnaround. Curwensville was down one of their key starters, and that caused a lot of miscommunication and a lot of struggles. In the end, the Lady Hornets dominated the afternoon, handing Curwensville a 53-14 loss.
The first quarter was as close as the Lady Tide would get to keeping it close, as the visitors stayed within two possessions.
Once the first quarter ended, it was difficult sledding. Curwensville was without one of their key starters on both offense and defense, Kyra Henry, and her size and presence was greatly missed as the Lady Tide struggled on defense for the remaining 24 minutes.
After falling behind 23-9 at halftime, the running clock was put in effect during the third quarter, as the Hornets kept the pressure on and would not yield.
Avery Taylor led all scoring with 20 points for Juniata Valley, while Makayla Moskel added another 14. Juniata Valley actually quadrupled the amount of made field goals compared to Curwensville, 20-5. For the Lady Tide, Alyssa Bakaysa led all scoring with six points.
Curwensville (6-14) has two final games on the season, as its final home game of the year will come on Monday when they face Brockway.
