DuBois to Celebrate Sesquicentennial 150th Anniversary in June

DUBOIS – DuBois will celebrate its sesquicentennial 150th anniversary in June.

Festivities are currently being planned by the DuBois Historical Society and Downtown DuBois with Visit Clearfield County.

At this week’s DuBois City meeting, council had a pair of road closure requests from the DuBois Historical Society.

The society requested the closure of West Park Avenue from Liberty Boulevard to North Jared Street on June 3 for a “street dance.”

The dance will take place at the Parkside Community Center from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

On June 4, the society requested the closure of West Long Avenue (between North Jared and Brady streets) from 8 a.m. – 4 pm.

Council tabled action pending the society’s submission of a city road closure application.

Bids

Also, this week, council approved advertisement for six bids regarding the “Water Resource Recovery Facility,” the new sewage treatment plant that’s under construction.

According to City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio, costs will be paid by sewer customers, as tax dollars will not be used for the $62 million facility.

He said it will be state-of-the-art in comparison to the current treatment plant, which was built in the 1960’s using a design from the 1940’s.

City Mayor Ed Walsh said he was surprised by the $15 million jump in project costs from five years but noted there’s been a general increase in costs for everything.

Council also awarded the flocculator replacement project bid to JP Environmental LLC.  JP Environmental was the low bidder at $388,100.
