CURWENSVILLE – The Blue Pirates of Williamsburg (17-4) were able to secure a season sweep of the Curwensville Golden Tide (5-14) by a final score of 69-43 Tuesday evening.
Earlier in the season, the Blue Pirates picked up a 79-48 victory back on January 10, In this one, Curwensville’s tough second-quarter saw them fall behind by double-digits which went a long way in the Golden Tide not being able to keep it close with Williamsburg.
In the first quarter, Curwensville played right with the Blue Pirates as they trailed by just eight at 18-10. However, scoring just four points in the second quarter saw the Williamsburg advantage grow to 32-14 going into the halftime break. Lambert Palmer of the Blue Pirates scored 11 of his game-high 23 in the opening half to help the visitors take control of the game the second quarter forward.
The third quarter faired better as the Curwensville offense got back on track, but they could not contain Palmer and Rowan Gorsuch in the period as they each scored six for the quarter. After three, the Curwensville deficit had grown to 50-25. The fourth quarter was much closer as Curwensville had six players find the scoring column to close out the game on a positive note. Unfortunately, it was not enough as Williamsburg cruised to a 69-43 victory.
Following up Palmer’s 23 for the Blue Pirates was Gorsuch with 20 for the evening. Zach Kagarise also managed to score in double-figures as he finished the night with 11 points for the visitors.
Danny McGarry was the lone double-figure scorer for the Golden Tide on Tuesday as he finished the contest with 10. Ty Terry followed up McGarry as he scored eight in the game. Davis Fleming and Tyler Lee followed up Terry as they each scored five. Parker Wood and Braden Holland each added four tallies for the home team. Rounding out the scoring for the Tide was Andrew Wassil with three points and Ayden Sutika and Grant Swanson with two points each.
Curwensville will use the next two days to prepare for a road showdown with West Branch on Friday, February 11. Earlier in the season, West Branch was able to take the first game of the season series back on January 13 in a 57-47 contest in Curwensville.
Friday’s meeting between the two programs will feature a junior-varsity game at 6:00 p.m. with the varsity contest slated to tip at 7:30 p.m.
