WESTOVER – After a tough game on Monday against Williamsburg, the Lady Tide (5-11) responded by traveling to Westover to secure the second win of the season over Harmony (1-15) in a 47-26 victory Tuesday evening.
Balanced scoring and solid defense were key in the win as six players for the Lady Tide found the scoring column while the team held Harmony to single digits in points in each of the four quarters.
It was a game Curwensville controlled throughout as they got out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter, thanks in large part to five points from Alyssa Bakaysa early on. The second quarter saw Skylar Pentz score eight of her game-high 16 to help Curwensville take a double-digit lead into the break at 25-14.
Halftime adjustments proved to help push the lead in the third period as a 15-4 run out of the halftime break was key in putting the game out of reach for the Lady Owls heading into the fourth quarter. After three, Curwensville held onto a commanding 40-18 advantage.
The fourth quarter saw Karleigh Freyer score five of the team’s seven points to close out the game and help the Lady Tide pick up a 47-26 victory.
Behind 16 from Pentz was Bakaysa who finished the game also in double-figures with 11. Austyn Guiher followed up Bakaysa with seven tallies to her credit. Kyra Henry added six, with Freyer finishing with all five of her points for the game coming in the final eight minutes. Rounding out the scoring for the visiting team was Savannah Carfley with two points.
Harmony’s Sherri Kephart tied for the game-high in scoring as she scored 16 points and nailed two three pointers in the loss. Following up Kephart was Jaylee Beck with five and Sydney Winings with four. Alyssa Passmore also added a free throw to wrap-up the scoring for Harmony.
A busy week continues for Curwensville girls basketball as they will resume a game with West Branch on Thursday, February 10 that ended prematurely earlier this season. The game will pick up at the beginning of the second-half. This game will begin at 4:00 p.m. in Curwensville, with junior-varsity to follow the first of two varsity contests on the day.
After the junior-varsity, the second varsity game will take place between West Branch and Curwensville with this game slated to tip around 6:30 p.m.
