CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Lady Tide (4-8) defeated the visiting Moshannon Valley Damsels (4-11) Monday evening by a final score of 36-23.
The weather was not enough to stop these two teams from squaring off as Curwensville was able to come away with the season sweep of the Damsels for the 2021-22 season with Monday evening’s win.
The home team was able to get out to a narrow 7-5 lead at the end of the first quarter as Alyssa Bakaysa scored four of her game-high 14 points in the opening period. However, it truly was the second quarter in which Curwensville scored 16 points that would go a long way in the Lady Tide coming out on top.
Bakaysa once again led in scoring for the second quarter with six points, while Karleigh Freyer and Kyra Henry were able to score four each to help the Lady Tide take a 23-14 lead into the halftime break.
From there, it was all about defense as Curwensville would only give up nine more points in the ball game while adding 13 more of their own in order to come away with a 36-23 double-digit victory.
Narrowly missing Bakaysa in double-figures was Henry with nine tallies for the game. Freyer would add another bucket in the third quarter to give her six for the game. Rounding out the scoring for the home team was Skylar Pentz with five and Savannah Carfley who added two.
For Moshannon Valley, Madison McCoy would lead the team with seven points as Riley Wharton followed up with six tallies. Teammates Sarah McClellend, Sophia Demko, Tessa Martin, Ella Berg, and Emily Murawski each added two points for the Damsels in the ball game.
The Lady Tide will rest up and get ready to head to Glendale on Thursday, January 27 for their next matchup. The Lady Tide are hoping to split the season series with the Lady Vikings of Glendale after Glendale defeated them in the first showdown of the season back on December 21, 2021 by a 50-14 final score.
The junior-varsity is scheduled to play prior to the varsity game at 6:00 p.m. with the varsity contest slated to tip at 7:30 p.m.
