CLEARFIELD – Crown Crest Memorial Park has a new owner.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors announced that the cemetery in Hyde was sold May 17 at a judicial sale. The property is now owned by Jeremy Styers.
According to previously-published GANT News articles, the cemetery has about 6,400 grave sites, with about 2,000 belonging to military veterans.
The cemetery’s previous owners, Edmund and Brenda Grenier, were sentenced to prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from customers who had family members buried at the cemetery as well as from customers with family buried at Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.
Following the Greniers’ arrest, the cemetery had fallen into disrepair. The Lawrence Township Supervisors, along with numerous volunteers, have been working to keep the cemetery maintained, particularly around the Memorial Day holidays. The cemetery was declared abandoned in 2019.
“It’s out of our hands now,” Supervisor Randy Powell said. “Anyone who has questions about the cemetery needs to contact the new owner.”
Secretary Barb Shaffner said the township has maintained the cemetery with the volunteers for two years.
Also, at the meeting, Code Enforcement Officer Debra Finkbeiner reminded residents that permits are required for anyone who is putting up an above-ground swimming pool.
Finkbeiner said “a lot of pools are popping up in the township.” She said she has received permit requests for in-ground pools, but not for above-ground pools.
Finkbeiner also reminded residents that it is illegal to blow grass clippings onto roadways.
