Kathryn “Kate” Wood has recently announced her decision to run for a position on the Clearfield Area School Board. She is running for both the Democratic and Republican nomination.
Kate grew up in Clearfield County and graduated from Clearfield Area High School. While she attended Clearfield Area High School, Kate was involved in a variety of music ensembles and sports teams.
Since graduation, Kate has regularly attended a variety of music concerts, theatrical performances and sporting events at the high school.
Kate graduated from Eastern University with a BA in music and an MA in school counseling for K-12.
While she was in college, Kate played intramural basketball and was active in a variety of music ensembles and the theatre program.
While pursuing her MA in school counseling, Kate completed her K-8 internship at W.C. Longstreth Elementary School and her 9-12 internship at Parkway Northwest High School for Peace and Social Justice, both of which are within the School District of Philadelphia.
Kate is currently employed as a permanency worker with Children’s Aid Society in Clearfield County. Her job consists of working in the Adoption Program, which is affiliated with the State-wide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN).
One of Kate’s favorite parts of the job is known as child preparation, which involves working with children and youth who are in the system for a variety of reasons and includes giving children a safe space in which they can share their thoughts and emotions.
Previously, Kate volunteered for several years as a youth leader for The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield. She has also served on the Christian Education Committee, Pastor Nominating Committee and Spiritual Life Committee.
Her passion for working with the youth began back when she was in middle school and volunteered with the original TAGG Team as a helper before becoming a team member for three years.
More recently, Kate is serving on the Lawrence Township Dog Park Committee and the CAST Board of Directors.
Kate is the daughter of Jon Wood and Ann Wood. She currently lives in Clearfield with her mother, Ann Wood, her cats, Jamie and Eddie, and her dog, Kelsey.
Kate is running for the Clearfield Area School Board because she understands many of the issues that are important to both families and educators in the district.
The children, parents and teachers who know Kate recognize how much she supports and cares about them and that she will never stop supporting all of the programs that are near and dear to her heart.
As a member of the board, Kate will always be available to the public as an active listening ear. She would like the opportunity to take her gifts and use them to collaborate with the rest of the Board to continually improve the educational experience for the students, parents and staff in Clearfield.
