CLEARFIELD- Area leaders, county officials and long-time friends turned out Friday to welcome home Shiloh native, Roland Welker, History Channel’s Alone season 7 winner.
The event took place at Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub where the Liegey family honored Welker with the newest addition to their menu, The Rock House Burger.
Denny Liegey, owner of Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub said the restaurant is also selling Rock House T-Shirts and the restaurant’s portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Clearfield Food Bank.
In addition, the Liegey family made a special donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation in memory of Roland’s mother, Mona, who passed away while he was training for the show.
Liegey said, “We want to embrace this hometown boy for his amazing feat. Not many times do you get to meet someone genuine from your hometown that can achieve such an accomplishment, but Roland was geared to do it.”
Making the cut out of over 40,000 applicants to History Channel’s wildly famous show, Welker was among 10 contestants set out to win the largest cash prize in the show’s history- $1 million dollars.
Welker was dropped off by helicopter late September 2019 along the dangerous rocky shoreline of Great Slave Lake’s east arm in the Northwest Territories in Canada. His mission was simple from day one: survive 100 days and win.
In over six seasons, no single contestant had ever lasted that long until Welker “got woodsy,” emulating the old-timers he deeply respects at “Rock House.”
On Aug. 20, 2020 world-wide fans of the show were tuned it to watch Roland’s sister, Megan Francis, trek to Rock House and tell him he won.
Denny’s Pub is no stranger to success, as well. Their famous burger challenges have garnered international attention and have been featured on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Food Network, The Travel Channel and many more.
Welker said he is grateful to the Liegey family for bestowing this honor.
“I am the 100- day champion of the greatest survival game in history. I am the big bull of the Northwoods so if I’m going to put my name on a piece of meat, I’m going to Denny’s, the innovator of the world’s best burgers.” Welker said.
The Rock House Burger is a smoke-flavored half pound angus topped with fire-roasted peppers and onions, Woodford Reserve bourbon pepper BBQ sauce with Gouda cheese and pecan shoulder bacon on a salt and pepper bun.
