CLEARFIELD – Two area men are facing charges in connection with an alleged attempted robbery and shooting incident that occurred Jan. 16 in Clearfield Borough.
Richard A. Demko Jr., 26, of Northern Cambria is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and criminal attempt/robbery, all felonies.
He’s also charged with misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and intentional possession of a controlled substance, plus one summary.
Anthony D. Guy, 48, of West Decatur is charged with felony conspiracy/robbery and misdemeanor intentional possession of a controlled substance and simple assault.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police responded to a South Second Street residence at 9:24 p.m. Jan. 16 where a 49-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers saw the victim lying on the floor inside the residence with a wound that was bleeding profusely. An officer applied a tourniquet on the upper part of the leg to try to stop the bleeding.
The man said he pulled his vehicle in at his residence and exited, which is when he was confronted by Demko and Guy. He said Demko asked “where’s the money” and that he ignored the question.
He said Demko took a swing at him, but he was able to block it. Then, Demko allegedly shot him while they were on the back stoop of his residence. The victim said afterwards, he was able to pull himself inside and close the door.
He told police that he played a lottery machine earlier in the day at a Lawrence Township business and won. He said he was uncertain if Demko or Guy was there, or if they just heard he had a large sum of cash.
Several times he reportedly identified the man who shot him as “Rickey” or “Demko,” who drives a red Dodge Avenger.
The victim was taken to Penn Highlands DuBois for medical treatment, according to the affidavit. Police recovered a 9mm shell casing and an amount of blood at the spot where the victim said Demko shot him.
A be-on-the-look-out (BOLO) alert was subsequently issued for the vehicle and both men were taken into custody Jan. 17.
Demko waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court while Guy had all charges held to county court for further disposition.
Demko and Guy remain incarcerated in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $200,000 and $100,000 bail, respectively.
