PHILIPSBURG — The schedule for the Clearfield Lady Bison in the first couple weeks of the season is a tough one, with six of the eight games being within Mountain League play. But, in particular, the finish of week one and the beginning of week two happens to be rather interesting. On Saturday afternoon, inside the Bison Gymnasium, Clearfield would win its second game of the season when they dropped the Lady Mounties of Philipsburg, 53-22.
Just two days later, both teams would meet up for a second time, this one happening at the P-O Area High School.
Same two teams, and for the Lady Bison, it was the same result as they utilized a strong first-half output to hand P-O its second straight loss, this one in a 60-33 final.
Clearfield raced out to an early first quarter lead and finished the first eight minutes with a 19-9 gap that was insurmountable. It was an exact repeat in the second quarter as they would drop 21 points in the frame, tripling the output of the Lady Mounties, and took a 40-16 lead into the break, more than enough to hold on for the win.
Emma Hipps paced the Lady Bison in scoring with 17 points, including three shots from deep range. Both Cayleigh Walker and Paige Rhine also made it into double-digits, scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively. In fact, every player on the Clearfield roster would account for points on the night. P-O only had one make it into double figures, as Camden Potter paced the Lady Mounties with 14 points.
Sitting at 3-1, Clearfield goes on the road Tuesday night to face off with DuBois. Varsity tip-off is approximately 7:30 p.m.
